The growth of citywide wireless networks is a step in the right direction, IMHO. Different cities have different reasons for building these networks—some say it will bring broadband Internet access to people who otherwise wouldn't have it any other way; others say it will bring more competition to markets dominated by the big telcos; and still others say it will spur economic development in their business districts. Any way you put it, I'm glad to see that individual cities are taking the next step instead of waiting for Washington to get off of it's duff to get something going.
